Congratulations on your upcoming bundle of joy! Creating a gift registry is a great way to make sure you are getting the things that you need, but there are so many baby items out there! Here are some common items to consider when creating a baby registry for your newborn:
- Diapers: You’ll need a lot of diapers, so consider registering for a variety of sizes and brands. You never know which ones will work best for your little one.
- Wipes: Wipes are also essential for keeping your baby clean and comfortable. Again, registering for single packs of different kinds will give you the opportunity to try them out on your baby.
- Onesies and sleepers: Babies grow quickly, so it’s a good idea to have a variety of sizes of these basic outfits. Sleepers with zippers instead of buttons make night diaper changes a lot easier!
- Swaddles: Swaddling can help soothe a fussy baby and promote better sleep. There are many different kinds, so having a variety on hand can be a lifesaver.
- Baby carrier: A baby carrier can help you keep your hands free while keeping your baby close and may be the only way you get things done during those first few weeks. Not everyone enjoys baby wearing, so consider whether you will get use out of one before adding it to your registry.

- Car seat: A car seat is a must-have for bringing your baby home from the hospital and for all future car rides. Consider whether you want to start with a bucket seat or a convertible car seat. You’ll also want to think about whether you need car seats or bases for multiple cars.
- Breastfeeding or bottle feeding supplies: Depending on your feeding preferences, you may need a breast pump, bottles, nipples, and other supplies.
- Baby bath items: A baby bathtub can make bath time safer and more enjoyable for both you and your baby. You’ll also need washcloths, towels, and soap.
- Diaper bag: A good diaper bag can help you stay organized and prepared while you’re out and about with your little one. Look for one with a lot of pockets and a changing pad.
- Baby monitor: A baby monitor can help you keep an eye on your baby while they sleep. Think about whether you prefer a video monitor or one with just sound.
