Nursery must haves
When setting up a nursery, there are several nursery must haves that every new parent should have to create a safe and comfortable environment for their baby. While not everything on the list is a necessity, it is a great place to start if you are overwhelmed by all of the options out there.
- Crib: A sturdy, safe crib is the centerpiece of any nursery. Look for one with adjustable height and a removable mattress for easy cleaning. Cribs that transition into a toddler bed or full-size bed can save you money down the road.
- Changing table and pad: A changing table and pad make it easy and convenient to change your baby’s diapers, as well as have all supplies in one central location. Some parents prefer to change their baby on the floor or another convenient, but safe place. You can decide what works best for you!
- Dresser: A dresser with ample storage space can keep your baby’s clothes, diapers, and other essentials organized. The top of the dresser can also double as a changing table if you want to save space or money.
- Rocking chair or glider: A comfortable rocking chair or glider is ideal for feeding, soothing, and bonding with your baby. This is one area where you may want to splurge! Spending countless hours in an uncomfortable chair will make those nighttime wakings even more difficult.
- Nightlight: A soft, dim nightlight can help soothe your baby during nighttime feedings and diaper changes and also help give them the signal that it’s still time to sleep.
- Sound machine: A sound machine can help your baby fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer by creating a peaceful, soothing environment and covering up outside noise. Many brands also sell combination nightlights and sound machines which can be convenient and cost effective.
- Baby monitor: A baby monitor allows you to keep an eye on your baby while they are sleeping, giving you peace of mind. It can also help you determine whether your baby needs something from you in the night, or if they are just making those cute baby sleep noises.
Remember, the most important thing in a nursery is creating a safe and comfortable environment for your baby. Choose items that are functional, safe, and easy to use, and consider your personal style and preferences when decorating the space.
