Looking to build your maternity wardrobe? Spending a ton of money on clothes you might only wear for a few months is probably at the bottom of your new baby shopping list. Luckily, with a few wardrobe staples, you can easily dress throughout your pregnancy. Here are some maternity clothing items that expectant parents may want to consider:

  • Leggings: Purchasing maternity leggings or even just stretchy, high-waisted leggings will help keep you comfortable during and after your pregnancy. These are especially great for post C-section! You can pair them with long shirts or dresses helping you look put together while staying comfortable.
  • Maternity Tank Tops: You can purchase these in basic neutral colors and wear them under your pre-pregnancy cardigans or any open-front shirt. They are also great for after your baby is born!
  • Maternity Jeans: Many moms-to-be could live in leggings, but you may prefer jeans or want to buy at least one pair for a different look. Trying on different kinds is key to deciding whether you prefer side-panels, or the style that goes over your belly. It’s also important to consider what will work best for you as your belly grows.
  • Maternity Tops: There are many stores that carry maternity tops and investing in a few neutral colors will give you a lot of versatility. However, you can also consider any oversized tops you may already have in your wardrobe or think about purchasing new tops in a size up.
  • Maternity Dresses: If you live in a warm climate or will be pregnant during the summer, having a variety of dresses in your closet could be a life saver! Look for dresses with an empire waist or a flowy silhouette, which will provide enough room for your growing belly. (I love Pinkblush and Baltic Born!)
  • Maternity bras: Invest in a few comfortable and supportive maternity bras, as your bust size may change during pregnancy. Try to find some that will also double as nursing bras to save you money down the road.

You will also want to consider what events you have coming up throughout your pregnancy. You may need a special occasion dress (renting a dress is a great option) or swimwear. Buying some staple items for your maternity wardrobe and incorporating them into your existing wardrobe will help you dress your ever-changing body and leave you with more money to spend on those adorable baby clothes!
